As the land recovers the action now centres on the river, where the bonds of kinship are tested to their limits. Kali the lioness is separated from her cubs in a spectacular hunt and the baby lions find themselves trapped in a bend in a river, with hooves thundering all around them. Chubby baby hippo Mafuta learns to survive in his riverine home, although just staying afloat is a challenge for this newborn – and Magamba the crocodile also has him in her sights.
